Unanswered Prayers

There is a specific purpose why God does not answer our prayers right away. Usually, it is better to wait, be still, and to know that He is God (Ps. 46:10).
I have prayed (for a long time now) for me to be a mother and for my husband to be a father. My theology tells me there is absolutely no doubt that God is able to answer that prayer. He’s a life-giver. He is a God of miracles. And He is a good Father. But what bothers me is not whether He can…but why He is not. Why is God withholding such a gift from me and Richard? That’s really a good question to ask. And so, I turn to the Scriptures for answers. And here I find soooooo many things about myself that need serious attention. I can only speculate that God must need more than just a mother and a father in me and Richard for our future children (whether biological, spiritual or adopted). Maybe He needs more than just a mom and dad. Maybe He needs a priestly mom & dad—a Christlike mom & dad. I don’t think we will ever BE THAT if we don’t get to know Him intimately in our greatest need, in our greatest hurt & in our greatest lack.
God uses our greatest need to show us that He is all we ever need—our greatest provision IS His presence.
God uses our deepest hurt so that we know that He is our ultimate healing and comfort and joy.
God uses our greatest lack to show us that in Him we are complete—everything else are only echoes of His grace.
Our unanswered prayers are actually answers in disguise.
So let’s be patient. In a season of “nothing”, “no” and “not yet”, God is at work.

Be still. He is God.
